Incomplete Interchange
“Incomplete Interchange” is a series of photographs made within the confines of the land isolated by two interchanges along Interstate 95 in the region of New England. My interest is to visually transform these two small semi-circular plots of land, North and South. The images seek to be a foil to the 19th Century Western Expedition Photographers or France’s Eugene Aget. In 2016 there is little left to explore. My subject matter is convenient. One mile from the comfort of my house, this place is not important and does not hold important cultural significance. Instead, it is practical. The perimeter is designed large enough for vehicles to accelerate seamlessly allowing cars and trucks to merge with traffic. The interior of these interchanges is what draws my interest. At best we experience this landscape as we accelerate past the manicured edge with arrested development in the center.
